I was the third and final child born to Gordon and Nancy Orton in 1974. My mother was saved as a teen, and agreed to marry my father because he said that he was a Christian. My father being a Lutheran, and my mother being an evangelical, had different understandings of the gospel. The Lord mercifully drew my father to Himself when I was nine years old.
While the Lord was working in my father’s heart, He was moving in mine as well. I clearly remember understanding my sinfulness and my complete inability to atone for my sin. Although I called upon Christ to save me, I wrestled with assurance for several years until I was a teen. I am not sure at what time the Lord saved me, but this I know, I am trusting in Christ as my only hope of eternal life.
Even during the battle over my assurance, I still felt a strong urging from the Holy Spirit to pursue the pastoral ministry. At first there was resistance, but now I cannot think of anything I would rather do. It amazes me that God would allow sinners such as me to proclaim His greatness.
God has been gracious in giving me a godly wife to work along side of me. Mary has been such an encouragement and a wonderful companion. We have four children: Kara (22) (married to Sawyer Moranville), James (20) (attending Boyce College), Andrew (17), and Michael (9).
I have been serving at Graterford Bible Fellowship since February of 2009. The elders, deacons, and church family have encouraged our hearts over and over again with their consistent dedication to serve the Lord. We are amazed at their love, and are so thankful to be a part of the work here in Graterford.
1 Thessalonians 3:12, "And may the Lord make you increase and abound in love for one another and for all, as we do for you." (ESV)
